FOR PROSPECTIVE AGENTS
What do I have to
do to become a real estate agent?
Your first step is to take the real estate pre-licensing
course. This course consists of 40 hours of classes covering
information on property rights and ownership, condominiums and coops,
contract and deeds, financing, brokerage, appraisal, fair housing and
consumer protection laws, and Massachusetts license law. The costs for
this course runs about $350. When you have completed the course you
will receive a certificate which entitles you to take the Massachusetts
Real Estate Salesperson's exam. The exam consist of approximately 120
multiple choice questions. When you pass the exam you immediately
receive your license and you may join a real
estate firm. Some firms may hire you before you receive your license,
but you cannot conduct any real estate business nor talk to any
customers or clients about real estate until you have passed the exam
and are licensed. Total cost to become a real estate agent including
classes, testing and license fee is approximately $500.
