What will you do as a Real Estate Agent?

Prospecting is the single most crucial element in the business and it's the hardest part for most agents. Prospecting can be done in a number of ways, including cold calling, canvassing, bulk mailing, networking, working a farm, sitting open houses, taking floor time, handing out lots of business cards, working the internet, and more. The important thing to realize, up front, is that it's not easy and yet it must be done if you're going to succeed in this business. Below is just some of the activities agents do, more or less, on a daily basis:

  • Touring new listings, previewing homes, reading real estate and mortgage financing updates, and generally learning and keeping informed on what's happening in your market area.
  • Learning new techniques and skills, or staying abreast of real estate related laws and issues, through training classes and formal course work. You will also be required to have 12 hours of continuing education every two years before you can renew your license.
  • Taking floor time or running open houses.
  • Doing market evaluations on homes and listing presentations to prospective home sellers.
  • Showing homes to prospective home buyers.
  • Preparing contracts for purchase and presenting offers for buyers, or offers from others to your sellers.
  • Doing follow up work on contracts, working with mortgage brokers and lenders, appraisers, home inspectors, home warranty companies, and attorneys.
  • Attending closings with your clients.
